Frequently asked questions
Short answers about the dragons of the Empyrean series and about Dragonkind. This is an unofficial fan guide. Last updated October 4, 2026.
What is Dragonkind?
A free, web-based choose-your-own-adventure Threshing at dragonkind.com, made by Yarros Ink (Rebecca Yarros's company) and launched October 1, 2026. Read our Dragonkind guide.
Is this site official?
No. Fourth Wing Dragons is an independent fan guide, not affiliated with Rebecca Yarros, her publisher or Dragonkind. See the about page.
Do I need an account for Dragonkind?
Starting Dragonkind requires an email account, per its privacy policy. We have not played it ourselves; our guide is compiled from press coverage and player reports. If you want a no-signup option, try our fan quiz.
How long is the Dragonkind retry wait?
A few hours, per the official FAQ on Rebecca Yarros's site; Parade reports four. There is no limit on retries, and you can keep trying until you bond. Use our retry countdown.
My Dragonkind login code didn't arrive. What should I do?
The official FAQ says codes are sent in batches. Check your spam folder and wait a little. More in the Dragonkind FAQ.
Is there Dragonkind merch?
Yes, on Rebecca Yarros's shop. It is US only for now, with international shipping said to be in the works.
How do you get a black or blue dragon in Dragonkind?
Every color and tail type is officially possible to bond with, but no method is published. A phone-battery trick for black is an unverified fan theory. Details in the black dragon section.
Are Dragonkind results random?
Partly, it seems. Yarros told Parade there is about a 10 percent chance of being burned regardless of your choices, and players report the same choices can give different dragons.
What dragon colors are there in the Fourth Wing books?
Six dens are known from the first book: black, blue, green, orange, red and brown. A seventh, the irids, is revealed in Iron Flame (spoiler). See colors and tails.
What are the dragon tail types?
Daggertail, swordtail, clubtail, scorpiontail and morningstartail, plus the feathertail of young dragons. Descriptions are on the colors and tails page.
What is the rarest dragon in Fourth Wing?
Black is described as the rarest den in the books. The morningstartail is a very rare tail type. See colors and tails.
What color is Tairn?
Tairn is black with a morningstartail, and bonded to Violet Sorrengail. See the dragon list for more named dragons.
What is Threshing Day, and is it Book 4?
Threshing Day is the Empyrean 3.5 companion collection of 13 stories, published September 29, 2026. It is not Book 4. See the Threshing Day guide.
When is Fourth Wing Book 4 coming out?
There is no announced title or date. Yarros has said she is writing the fourth novel and that there will be five books in all.
Is there a Fourth Wing TV show?
Amazon MGM Studios has ordered a series for Prime Video, announced in May 2026. As of October 2026 there is no premiere date.
